What was life like during World War 2?

Which is what was life like during World War II? Well... All the men were drafted, you know. You all got a number. You would be called. Tony was drafted when he was 21. So you had to leave school. Schools were empty. You know, all the big schools and people were empty. Now, some people were designated 4F. That means if you had whatever, and some people like Trump would have been in 4F saying he had bone spurs or something like that. You know, that was a big... You wouldn't want to be the man who was left 4F. But somebody who came to my house, she didn't know. She said, "Oh, my son, there's a big sign on his desk." Says, "4F." But that was... and there were If you want to choose, you had a lot of rations. to go with a book because you weren't allowed certain amount. But there was a black market. You know, they would disregard the book. Or my mother had a big sack of 25 pounds of sugar in the basement. That's all I remember. One time, because I worked at a department store during college, I was able to get Katie, nylon stockings. Oh, that was like the biggest gift you could get. But I'm talking too much. No. They would always have alarms go off. Like, as tests? Test, I forgot what they were called. And everything had... you had to stay wherever you were. If you were smoking a cigarette, that had to go down. And you had to wait until the whistle blew. For the walk clear. That was pretty often. And what was the general mood like among people? Well, then you got mailed twice a day. People were worried about their sons and brothers. I had cousins. One was in the submarines. They were in the Navy. Everything, you know. So we were all fortunate that in our family, everyone came home, safe and sound. And everyone, Franklin Roosevelt was the president. So when he spoke the fireside chats, everyone listened on the and respected him. radio You would never, ever think of saying, "Roosevelt" without saying, "President Roosevelt." What was it like, this wasn't in the question, but what was when the war ended? it like Oh, there were big celebrations. You've seen pictures, you know. You know, everybody was very happy.
